Let It Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!!!

Our volunteers have been working hard to clear trees and branches off the trails. All of the trails are packed as of today and they tried to groom, but there just isn’t enough snow yet. We all have to do the snow dance.

The Ontario Federation of Snowmomobile Clubs (OFSC) has introduced a transportation ministry-approved trails permit for Three-day and seven-day use. The noteable feature of these particular permits is that they can be printed immediately after the online purchase is complete. As such, you may now start seeing permits that look different from what you’ve come to expect.

Here’s general information about printable permits you may find relevant:

  • They can only be obtained online at
  • They can be printed in colour or in black-and-white on any type or colour of paper.
  • Like other trail permits, they are assigned to a specific sled identified by licence and VIN number during purchase.
  • Like other trail permits, they must be affixed to the sled in such a way that the permit is protected from the elements and legible at all times. It’s each rider’s responsibility to ensure the presence, legibility and integrity of the printed permit at all times on the sled.
  • Riders using printable permits are instructed to keep a paper record of their purchses with them when on the trails.

Here’s  specific information about each permit type you may find relevant:

  • 2014 3-Day permit: This permit can be purchased for use at any time during the season. It provides unlimited access to available OFSC  prescribed trails only  for the three consecutive days indicated on the permit.
  • 2014 7-Day permit:  This permit can be purchased for use at any time during the season. It provides unlimited access to available OFSC prescribed trails only  for the seven consecutive days indicated on the pemit.

A Dream come True

The long hot summer of 2013 ended with a “DREAM COME TRUE” for our club. Fifteen years of aggressive fund raising gave us the opportunity to build a facility to not only house our groomers and related equipment but keep our dedicated volunteer base out of the wrath of the bitter cold hands of mother nature. A “building committe” spear headed by George Tsagrinos, Club Director ( an excellent builder in his own right) was put together with fellow club executive members – Ray Craig, Herb Hammond, Dewey Jordan, Bram Vantol and Lionel Williams. After extensive planning efforts by the committee we broke ground on June 12, 2013.

This was a huge undertaking for  a “not-for-profit” organization. We are proud to report the vast majority of work and materials was performed/purchased from the local business community. The project, under the close supervision of George, was completed within the planned time frame of just over two months. Two key volunteers, Barry Combden and John McMurray devoted numerous hours to the project – their support was excellent.

Our “ribbon cutting” ceremony was held on September 25, 2013 at our new home – 348 Boulter Lake Road, Lake St. Peter, Ontario with a very impressive group in attendance – council members of Hastings Highlands, the Town of Bancroft, OPP commander, our exectutive, local club members and many other interested business owners.

While the building is complete on the exterior and looks wonderful, we still have more “fund raising” to perform in order to finish the interior – insulation, dry wall, wiring etc. A well and septic system are also in future plans.

Eventually our membership will have a convenient spot to meet and enjoy the sport of snowmobiling so drop by on your travels and see “first hand” the extra efforts of your club.

It goes without saying any support/donation you can make would be appreciated.

Stay tuned for a great slide show of the project in the future.

Dewey Jordan, Club President.
